Another restaurant which many would recommend in North Devon is The Pier House in Westward Ho! It overlooks the sea so getting a table by the window is best for fantastic views, or one of the outdoor tables if the weather is sunny. The Pier House is famed for its seafood dishes sourced locally but also has a plethora of meat dishes on the menu too.
For starters, we ordered the scallops with butternut squash finished off with pine nuts. The flavour combination worked well and the pine nuts added a crunch to the texture of the dish. The scallops were a decent size and made for a fantastic starter.
For my mains, I chose the cod fillet wrapped in parma ham with a creamy sauce and new potatoes on the size. This dish tasted well: lots of rich flavours, cooked well and beautifully presented.
Even after all that, I still managed to find room for dessert! I ate the creme brûlée. The attention to detail is admirable – it looks fantastic and I like the PH branding on the dessert.
I also had a floater coffee.
So I finished the evening VERY full. And VERY happy.
The pricing is a little high, but understandable when you consider the quality of the seafood and other ingredients. I enjoyed the food and the service was efficient. For a special evening, I would love to return.
